On Saturday 19th June we held a Quiz and Picnic Evening in the chapel. A number of teams put their thinking caps on and put their heads together to come up with answers to the questions being fired at them! The questions ranged from sport to entertainment, to science, to geography. The feedback is that those who attended had a great time, and are already swotting up for the next one - perhaps in the spring! Many thanks to all who attended. We raised R2000 for Project Gateway.

Car Boot Sale

On Saturday 17th April Project Gateway hosted its first Car Boot Sale. 41 stall holders gathered to sell a variety of goods ranging from unwanted homewares to beautiful, handmade clothing and crafts. There was a steady stream of shoppers visiting the stalls and purchasing all sorts of things from yummy samoosas and cupcakes to candelabra and paintings!

Guitarists2 young guitarists, Craig and Joel, entertained the crowds whilst people mingled and then headed into OPC, the Old Prison Cafe for coffee, tea and muffins.

There was a buzz in the air as people shopped, chatted and sold their goods, many people going home with money in their pockets and more space in their homes!

The Gateway School of Fashion had a stall, where they sold goods designed and beautifully made by students and ex-students who are now running their own businesses.

All in all a very successful day, raising the profile of Project Gateway and providing a means for people to sell their wares.

Anniversary Dinner

On October 30th Project Gateway hosted an exquisite three course fundraiser dinner marking the 18th Anniversary of Project Gateway. Eighteen years ago, the keys of the old prison were handed over to Project Gateway, and ‘Unlocking Potential’ began. The hall was beautifully and professionally decorated, with black, silver, and red drapes covering the walls and ceiling; tables draped in black cloths, accented with either tall candelabras or vases of red roses, and hanging from the ceiling were two chandeliers.

Included in the function was a motivational Brad Sadlerguest
speaker, Brad Sadler.  Brad was convicted of fraud and corruption totalling R50 million and sentenced to 4
years in prison.

Brad shared about the fraud he was charged with, his experience of prison life, and the impact it had on him
and his family.

Another highlight of the evening was the incredible live cabaret.

Live Cabaret! Thanks to the generosity of a considerable number of sponsors, the full R100 for every ticket sold went towards breaking the cycle of poverty and providing empowerment opportunities for the poorest of the poor in our communities. Our thanks to all our sponsors, who made it a stunning and memorable evening.

AGM August 2009

Project Gateway’s 2009 AGM was attended by 86 people representing local organisations, churches and business, staff and  interested individuals, and a number of folk from other countries.  At least one member from each of the 10 founding churches attended.

The activities of our many projects and departments are well-reflected in the Annual Report 2008/9. Our Guest Speaker Pastor Vasco Seleoane from Africa Enterprise was extremely informative and helpful, and a transcript of his talk can be read here
